While OSX has great programs like AlphaBaby, the original author couldn't find anything for Linux and having wanted to learn Python for a while, Bambam was his excuse.

Bambam est une application simple de manipulation de clavier (et de gamepad) pour bébé qui verrouille le clavier et la souris et affiche à la place des couleurs vives, des images et des sons. Alors qu'OSX dispose d'excellents programmes comme AlphaBaby, l'auteur original n'a rien trouvé pour Linux et ayant voulu apprendre Python depuis un moment, Bambam était son excuse.
